PART 1: THE FINE ART OF PHOTOGRAPHY & MOTION PICTURE

Learning the art and technology of motion-picture photography implements a fundamental still image knowledge-base, which is crucial for creating dynamic motion picture. It’s all about the look and feel of a film.

In this section, you will will experiment and explore your aesthetic and professional goals as you begin to shoot quickly and expressively from the first day.

Providing the vital principles and key knowledge, whilst inspiring and enhancing artistic vision and creative image development, it challenges you to release your artistic voice, and lies an essential foundation for a top career in filmmaking, both on land, and underwater.

PART 2: FILMMAKING

This section includes Scripting, Storytelling, Producing, Directing, Cinematography, Art, Sound, Music, Technical, Logistical, Promotional, Networking, Connecting, and all aspects required for a professional career in Underwater Cinematography & Film.

You will find your creative voice using visual narration and learn strategies for creating an engaging narrative. You will collaborate on short film projects that will deepen and enhance your visual storytelling skills. Looking at the big-picture through the director’s lens, you will explore everything from basic story structure to cinematography, producing and directing. You will learn how to plan and execute a successful production in its entirety and master the tools and gear that are intrinsic to the film production industry.

Gaining extensive experience in lighting, mood creation, shooting, and how to progress the narrative forward through setting, mood and tone, you will make your first film.

PART 3: THE UNDERWATER FILMMAKER

This section covers 10 days of diving, totalling 20 dives, when you take everything underwater. From concept to delivery, it all comes together.

Mastering the numerous necessary adaptions to an ever-changing aquatic realm is an integral part of the creative process required for good footage.

Capturing behaviour, action and emotion really bring your shots to life.

You will learn how to tell a story through seamless camera movements, practise framing, movement, composition, lighting, angles and stability. You’ll learn how to anticipate and troubleshoot problems that may arise during underwater shoots and successfully manage a professional underwater production in its entirety.

This section provides a complete, hands-on experience, and covers all aspects and elements of underwater cinematography, all 100% tailored to your personal goals. Get creative, focus on your future, expand your vision, make a movie, prepare your demo reel, and start to really live the dream.

PART 4: EDITING

This no-nonsense approach to the art and beauty of editing implements ultimate image mastery and annihilates all boundaries of creativity.

10 customized specialty modules include and are not limited to file management, colour grading, backscatter removal, depth of field and exposure adjustment, image composite, enhancement, reconstruction, software workflow and a strong foundation for colour correction & grading (a must, especially for underwater imaging).

Teaching essential editing techniques using advanced digital editing software, you will gain the essential knowledge to properly color correct your own content and experiment to find your visual aesthetic. Hands-on training also covers editing theory, compositing, post-production organization, post-production editing skills and understanding the vital role of editing in the storytelling process from start to finish.

Bernat Garrigos

Director of Aniol SL since 2005, Bernat Garrigo has been making underwater video for many years, and took many courses, yet never reached the professional level he sought. In 2017, he founded the Project Alive Foundation and embarked on an ambitious project in collaboration with the Scientists at the World register of marine species and Lynx Foundation to create a world database of photographs and videos and the first world catalogue of all underwater taxonomic groups.
